Workforce Strategy · AI Governance · Organisational Design

Most analysis of enterprise AI comes from people who have never had to govern it.

I work inside BHP — one of the world's most complex enterprises — governing a high-value technology portfolio and leading AI strategy across a global workforce. The perspective here comes from that position, not from a seat at the edge of the room.

The practitioner gap

Almost nobody writing about enterprise AI and workforce transformation has had to govern it at scale — with real capital, real accountability, and consequences that outlast any single engagement. The analysts write from the outside. The consultants advise on transformations they will never execute. The vendors publish research that serves their product roadmap.

That gap is the point. Phronesis exists because the most credible position in this space — a senior practitioner writing directly from inside the work — is almost entirely unoccupied.

Practical wisdom for enterprise transformation

Phronesis (φρόνησις) is Aristotle's concept of practical wisdom — the capacity to reason well about complex situations and act on that reasoning. It is the intellectual framework behind this work: philosophy applied to enterprise-scale problems, not as theory, but as a practitioner's tool.

Phronesis — the publication on Substack — applies that lens to workforce strategy, AI governance, and organisational design. The Approach page sets out the three practices that govern how I think about this work.

Advisory and speaking

I serve on executive advisory boards for SAP and ServiceNow, on the HR Advisory Committee for the Australian Institute of Business, and speak internationally on workforce transformation and AI strategy.

I am a Fellow of the Australian HR Institute (FCPHR) — the peak professional designation in the field — and hold an MBA.

Advisory availability is limited to complex, large-scale enterprise transformations. The briefing form is the right starting point.
